Egad! This trend of speech doth me disturb,
That some use nouns, like "impact," as a verb!
I'll Type this up, and Xerox what I'm able,
Then Chair the meeting, where this, I will Table!

Yiddish proverb or Nietzsche or Brecht, whoever wrote:
"Der mensch tracht, und Gott lacht" (Man plans, and God laughs) was not really right.
What it should say is:
"Gott tracht und der Mensch Schlemassel macht." (God has plans, and human beings make a total mess of them).

 SNL
’s Funniest Jew
Where Adam Sandler’s comedy is nuanced and proudly Jewish, Andy Samberg
offers one-note assimilation

Adam Sandler explores his Jewish identity, alright. In "You Don't Mess with
The Zohan," Mr. Sandler graphically supports the Koran, which states "Jews are
mostly the sons of pigs and apes." Sandler's Jewish hero, The Zohan, perfectly,
and singlehandedly, embodies both of the Koran's concepts. The Zohan has the
super strength of an ape, and, by exploitively providing extras by way of sexual
services to all the geriatric clients of his hair salon, and by dallying -- dare
I say "shtupping?" --with his zaftig landlady, played by Lainie Kazan, he shows
himself to be a blue-ribbon, champion, male chauvinist sexual pig. Of course,
that all straightens out at the end, when he falls in love with a beautiful,
young Palestinian woman/princess, and presumably lives happily intermarried,
ever after.

Comment to CNN re theory of Erin Burnett of Out Front that suspected killer Luka Magnotta's Internet presence showed a desire for fame which turned into a desire for murder.

Gee, Erin:

That was really a brilliant psychological insight you offered tonight about suspected killer/mutilator, Luka Magnotta.  In an age when  all kinds of people post endless videos and blogs about their cute
pet/child/or themselves, singing/acting/speaking/stunting/opining and/or complaining, it's  Luka's videos alone [i.e., the celebrity-style ones - my clarification] which point to the pathological, narcissistic lust for fame which may have turned him into a possible killer.

Good call.  You have amazing  perspicacity to be able to differentiate Mr.  Magnotta's narcissism from everyone  else's.

Re: ‘Showing The Police We Can Do What We  Want,’ Scott Stinson, Aug. 10.

Scott Stinson posits that the young rioters in London are not really protesters. They espouse no
cause and have no apparent agenda, other than “having fun.” But I believe they
do have a cause of sorts.

Throughout the ages, we have always had disenfranchised youth. But now we
have the Internet and social media, which has the potential to organize large
groups of people. Sometimes this is a good thing, such as in Egypt. Young adults
now have a shocking amount of power to flex their muscles and, sadly, many get
drunk on the excitement of it all.

In the West, it’s less about the specific cause and more about sticking it to
the man. Teenage delinquency, and unrest, have found a new outlet. And it’s not
hard to see why they are [feel] disenfranchised. Considering the mess the world is in
today — the economy, the wars, the corruption — the “wisdom of adults” has never
been more suspect.

Free health care, expensive parking

Re: Hospital Parking A Stealth User Fee, Doctors  Journal Says, Nov. 29.

Hospitals should probably charge $5 for all day parking, with 10% off for weekly and 25% off for monthly passes. That’s about  the cost of return bus fare. Since, however, the hospitals would then likely lose a large portion of the revenue they use to purchase big ticket items, how about asking the federal and provincial governments to give substantial tax breaks and financial incentives to both vendors and purchasers of large  equipment sold to hospitals, to make them much cheaper for hospitals to buy?

Historically, government cutbacks have obliged hospitals to go into the  revenue generating business — but, as Dr. Rajendra Kale, interim editor-in-chief  of the Canadian Medical Association Journal points out, the public’s access to  hospitals should not be impaired by prohibitive roadblocks like usurious parking  fees.

Jews and circumcision

Re: Delicate Decision, Aug. 20.

According to Jewish tradition, Adam, the only human created directly by the Almighty, did not have a foreskin. His foreskin only grew after he had  sinned, and had fallen from grace.  The removal of the foreskin, therefore,
must be seen as restoring the body to its original pefection, as created by G-d.

GORDONICUS LINDSAE, 18TH CENTURY VISIONARY & FUTURISTIC ARTIST
With uncanny prescience, Gordonicus Lindsae made sketches and engravings in the 18th Century, CE, which pre-visioned contemporary urban landscapes.  How he did it, is a mystery -- but he was known to drink copious amounts of green tea, and then run into his studio.
